Young and old in crafts
Mentoring as part of an apprenticeship and intergenerational responsibility as a factor of success for the professional practice
The project is funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation in the field of “health and humanitarian help”. Cooperating partners are the Institute for Qualitative Research at the Freie Universität Berlin (FUB), the Center for Technology and Society (CTS) at the Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) and the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH).
It is the combination of a “Generationenkolleg” and application-orientated pilot projects. The “Generationenkolleg” is a board of notable personalities in science and practice discussing current issues concerning “Young and old”, the demographic change, mentoring between the generations, the situation on the vocational training market and other issues concerning the intergenerational relationship. At the same time the covered issues shall be exposed to the public. The board will assemble twice a year, bringing together the members ideas and knowledge on the basis of their professional and every day experiences. Furthermore will the board monitor the development at the reference sites, predominantly the “Jugendwerkhof Wessels” where exemplary concepts in mentoring are put into practice.
