nexus took part in the second Designathon – or inclusive hackathon –organized by PEDAL in Bratislava on 25.-27.11.2019. This second designathon was dedicated to inclusiveness. It gathered experts in the fields of SSH and ICT, who develop solutions to tackle challenges in four pre-defined areas: Education, Immigration, Disinformation, and Artificial Intelligence.

In total, 35 participants from 11 countries took part in the event. Participants were divided into 7 interdisciplinary teams, which competed during 2 days. They also partook in a pitch workshop, received mentoring and feedback, and, lastly, pitched their ideas in front of 5 professional experts. The winning team of the Designathon developed a project that helps human resource management to recruit employees based on ethical artificial intelligence.

This was the second event in the work package “practical collaborative events” for which nexus is responsible.  Further events that aim to bring social scientists and ICT experts to work together on responsible innovations are going to take place in Berlin, Bratislava and Tel Aviv in the first half of 2020. We will publish more information on these events in the beginning of next year on our HubIT platform.
