In February 2009, the “Berlin Action Plan to Combat Homophobia” was passed by the Berlin Senate and adopted in April 2009 as the initiative “Berlin tritt ein für Selbstbestimmung und Akzeptanz sexueller Vielfalt” (Berlin stands up for self-determination and acceptance of sexual diversity). The Senate Department for Integration, Labour and Social Affairs, State Office for Equal Treatment – Against Discrimination (LADS) has taken the lead for its implementation and coordinates the activities and plans of the responsible Senate departments and numerous civil society actors involved in the process. The package of measures contains about 60 actions that will be carried out in 2010 and 2011 and includes several fields of action. The measure “Diversity training for the Berlin administration” belongs to the field of action “Driving change in the administration” and is coordinated at the Department of Same-Sex Lifestyles of LADS. The diversity training courses pursue the following three goals: 1. acceptance of sexual and gender diversity in the Berlin administration 2. sharpening individual perception of discriminatory structures with regard to lesbian-gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons (LGBTI) 3. training of multiplicators

The Senate Department for Integration, Labour and Social Affairs has commissioned the agency ariadne an der spree to implement the measure “Diversity training for the Berlin administration”. As a subcontractor of ariadne an der spree, the nexus Institute is responsible for the framework conception of the diversity training courses as well as the detailed conception of the various training formats (half-day seminars, one-day and two-day training courses, multiplier training), the conception of the training documents for the participants as well as the acquisition and coordination of the diversity trainers.
