Diseases caused by poor nutrition are on the rise. The consumer centres are reacting to this with the “Eating Cult Tour” programme. Current studies show that children, adolescents and young adults from low socio-economic milieus and families with a migration background are particularly affected. Lack of consumer competence is assumed to be one cause. Young people are not able to evaluate product information on food and weigh up purchasing decisions. The project “Ess-Kult-Tour” is funded by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV). The project started on 1.12.2010 and is expected to end on 31.12.2012. “Ess-Kult-Tour” is based on an action- and lifeworld-oriented concept of nutrition education. Consumer competence in the area of food is to be promoted. The target group: adolescents and young adults. Experts from the consumer centres implement the interactive learning offer. The long-term continuation is carried out by teachers who are qualified in project workshops. nexus is responsible for an accompanying, activating evaluation of the educational units and accompanying materials. One question will be whether the project reaches the target group of youth and young adults with special development needs. Body of text
