The Senate of the State of Berlin would like to strengthen the participation of citizens as a principle of political decision-making and involve them in Berlin’s development.
A central component is the development of guidelines for the participation of citizens in spatial urban development. As early as June 2017, the requirements for this were publicly discussed at a city forum. In November of the same year, a working committee was formed, consisting of citizens, Berlin politicians and administrators, which will develop the guidelines. Citizens will be involved in a participation process online at mein.Berlin.de and in local workshops.
The nexus Institute, together with the Planners’ Association for City and Space (Planergemeinschaft für Stadt und Raum eG), is responsible for accompanying the work process. This includes providing information on examples of guidelines from other cities and examples of participation from Berlin, facilitating the meetings of the working committee and preparing the workshops as well as preparing the results for the text of the guidelines. The nexus Institute is also involved in the commission for the communication concept to accompany the process.
