HafenCity Universität Hamburg (HCU) was founded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in 2006. Following the successful conclusion of the new university agreement with the Ministry of Science and Research (BWF) in autumn 2012, HCU is obliged by agreement to submit a new Structure and Development Plan (STEP) by autumn 2013. Among other things, the plan sets out the framework conditions from 2013 to 2020. The nexus team accompanied and moderated the kick-off workshops involving all status groups of the university in the period from December 2012 to February 2013. The staff organised a kick-off event for the STEP process that was open to the university. The results of the kick-off event were presented in an exhibition. nexus relied on participatory moderation.

STEP working group and the university were supported in working out different development options with advantages and disadvantages. The aim is to identify different options that can be further developed by HCU.
